German transport corporation Daimler AG, which produces cargo vehicles and premium class cars, such as Mercedes Benz, presented a number of projects based on blockchain, on which the company is presently working.
During the Startup Autobahn Expo event, which took place on September 24, 2020, the leading car manufacturer-provided information on its current projects on decentralized identification. On them, the German manufacturer works in collaboration with such leading companies engaged in the technological field of the decentralized ledger, like Spheris and Ont.
For example, in the framework of the collaboration between Daimler and Spheris, a solution is being developed for decentralized identification based on the blockchain, which operates on the I Hyperledger Indy. The team declared that the system will make it easy for applicants to confirm their authenticity, credentials, etc., and to automatically sign the agreements.
In its turn, the purpose of Daimler’s collaboration with the Ontolog blockchain is the development of MoveX – a sole solution for decentralized identification, which is directed towards the provision of the customers with the opportunity to use a variety of mobile services without compromising their privacy.
While recommending innovative initiatives, the head of the blockchain direction of Daimler Mobility, Dr. Garry Berens, emphasized, that a decentralized identification gives a huge advantage to the customers:
“The new breakthroughs will allow us to combine services from different companies and provide them to the client as if they were provided by the same company. Clients are identified in the entire system one time, and due to this, they can record transactions from any store and with any operator. This is one of the advantages of blockchain technology and the distributed ledger. There is a whole revolution behind this. ”
Daimler and the Mercedes Benz brand have been trying their strength in the eco-system of block-technology for a long time now. In 2018, Daimler launched the MobiCoin token, which was part of a plan to promote eco-friendly and safe driving habits.
It is worth noting that the Mercedes brand first announced its plans for the introduction of blockchain technology in February 2019, when the company shared a plan for a test run of a revolutionary technology, which ensures the smooth flow of the supply chain on spare parts.
In January 2020, Mercedes Benz launched a pilot blockchain project, directed at tracking carbon dioxide emissions in the chain of cobalt supplies.
