
Venezuelan military has detained a truck with equipment for mining cryptocurrency.
This was announced on the Twitter account of a local military command.
According to the announcement, the truck “Chevrolet” was transporting 315 miners Antminer S9. The driver had no cargo permit. He also couldn’t explain with what purpose did he transport miners.
The portal Criptonoticias informs, that in Venezuela there have been strict quarantine measures, according to which automobile transportation on long-distance is forbidden. Initially, the driver was stopped, for this reason, however, after checkup additional questions arose – he had no documents accompanying the cargo.
Antminer S9 has lost much of its relevance considering the appearance of more sophisticated equipment. Nevertheless, they still appear on the secondary market for $100 to $250, Criptonoticias reported.
The military announced, that they passed the case to the National office for crypto assets. Mining of cryptocurrencies in Venezuela is an officially recognized business. The fine for possession or use of such equipment without a license can amount to as much as $18,000.
This is the first case of seizure of such devices in Venezuela this year. The last case like this was registered in September 2019. Then the case was similar – the owner didn’t possess the necessary permits.
