The Backlash Results in Exclusion of NFT and Ethereum by Discord

The CEO and co-founder of Discord have now cancelled his plans for the NFT feature after announcing its “pre-release” development stage. Jason Citron opted to drop this initiative after being surrounded by several comments requesting to let go of the NFT feature.

The Backlash on ETH NFTs

Discord is a famous community messaging application that has been asked to drop its integration idea concerning an NFT based on ether (ETH). It happened due to a major backlash for a considerable base of their users.

The rejection of the idea began on 9th November after a tweet made by Jason Citron, the CEO and founder of the community messaging app. This tweet was captioned “probably nothing” and presented a picture of the setting’s page of the app showing the logo of ETH and the function to integrate digital wallets including WalletConnect and MetaMask.

What Happened After the Announcement?

Soon after the tweet was publicised, Citron was targeted by more than a thousand comments asking to ban this integration. Users even threatened the CEO by cancelling the subscription of Nitro. People having suspicions on the crypto market argued that NFTs are scams and other kinds of Ponzi schemes to harm the environment. They also trigger energy consumption to facilitate crypto mining.

Though Discord is quite a popular application in the crypto community, the concern about the NFTs is not very well accepted. The role of NFTs to build communities is not accepted and it can be perceived that the gaming contingent crowd along with other users of the platform are not ready to accept crypto tokens.
