The president of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, proposed that the election commission of his country implements the potential of blockchain-based technologies in the election process. The acting president highlighted his conviction that it is only this modern-day technology that could guarantee the fairness of presidential and parliamentary elections in his country.
“There have been three revolutions because of election fraud. If this is allowed to continue, the unrest and the protests will continue as well. Going forward, everything should be fair. I had a consultation with the Central Election Commission and offered them to implement the blockchain technology”, Japarov noted.
The recently appointed President and Prime Minister had been serving a prison sentence until not too long ago. He was accused of involvement in the kidnapping of a public official – an allegation Japarov continuously rejected. He maintains he was framed for the crime because of his political activity.
Japarov suggested that if no unexpected problems occur, the introduction of the blockchain technology in the election process can be complete within three to six months. According to him, it is the blockchain that could counter election fraud, bribery, and the resulting political unrest from election rigging in his country.
