The Bitcoin conference that took place in Miami was the highlight of the week. Around 25000 people attended the conference to learn more about the BTC, other cryptocurrencies and fintech companies. Miami is said to be the crypto-capital of the world because of the growing number of fintech startups. But what made this conference controversial this year was the bold statements by Peter Thiel- one of the very few businessmen who had earned millions of dollars through the BTC fund in 2018.
Peter Thiel, the co-founder of PayPal, called the pro-blockchain only approach an anti-BTC phenomenon. The billionaire venture capitalist called out all the famous business owners who have been anti-bitcoin as the “enemies list” who are hindering the growth of cryptocurrency. He also mentioned that Warren Buffett is number one on this list.
He highlighted how Warren Buffett had dismissed the idea of investing in BTC and how his firm Berkshire has invested $1 billion in Brazil’s Nubank, which attracts crypto investors.
Theil also mentioned how two prominent figures, Jamie Dimon (CEO JPMorgan) and Larry FinK (CEO BlackRock), had a bearish view of the coin. He mentioned that they have institutional biases towards the coin. It is their political choice when they do not invest in BTC directly but then invest in the woke companies and thus benefit indirectly from the BTC price movement.
He mentioned that the adoption of BTC was not easy. It had to witness several apprehensions, volatility, and political anarchism before getting accepted. Many governments, politicians and businesses have hindered its growth.
He further mentioned that Ethereum or gold were not the real competitors of BTC, but its indices like S&P 500 or the stock market. Moreover, he mentioned BTC to be the most honest and efficient market globally.
