Forecasting that the future of payments rests in digital currencies, Microsoft CEO Bill Gates emphasized his “neutral view” on Bitcoin. In addition, he noted that the digital form of money should provide the ability to cancel transactions with full transparency.
The 65-year-old business tycoon has already had the opportunity to get acquainted with Bitcoin – a few years ago he was given one BTC for his birthday, but he quickly got rid of it.
He is now practicing a “neutral” approach to assets, as described in a recent interview with CNBC:
“I do not own Bitcoins, I do not short Bitcoins, and I am neutral.”
He also said that the Gates Foundation is actively studying digital payment alternatives that can minimize transaction costs. Nevertheless, according to him, there are several significant differences between BTC and digital payments:
“We make sure you can reverse transactions and see who is doing what to rule out tax evasion or unlawful activity.”
Regarding the BTC surges in price, Gates commented it could rise or fall depending on the extent of the hype, but he has no desire to guess where it will go.
