Iranian government has announced plans to give the green light on the demands of some industrial-scale power plants to start Bitcoin mining operations on condition they don’t use subsidized electricity.

The official news agency IRNA released a statement on Monday that the mentioned power plants can be used as Bitcoin mines provided, they follow the tariff guidelines of the government and have the necessary licenses. The announcement explicitly mentions that any plant considering steps in this direction could not use subsidized fuel for its crypto mining operations.

Furthermore, the announcement highlights the supply of electrical power is an issue with a great importance to the general public, hence the Iranian authorities are determined to not allow misuse of the tariffs for the agricultural or the industrial sector, at least while Bitcoin`s price is at levels above $9000.

Just last month it became clear that there are more than 1,000 licenses for Bitcoin mining issued in Iran. Meanwhile, there are at least 14 major crypto miners in the country that have requested more than 300 megawatts (MW) of power for their mining operations.

In recent months Iran has been making significant steps to legalize and subsidize the Bitcoin mining industry in all regions of the country, which is considered to be on the fourth in the world in terms of the Bitcoin hash rate.
