AMD is preparing to unveil a new GPU that will be designed for cryptocurrency mining operations, PC Gamer reports. According to the publication, the system based on the Navi 12 and Navi 10 chips will be able to mine Ethereum. AMD Graphics Driver Update states that the new GPU will be released without VCN and DCN technologies, which will make it unable to stream video to the display. This makes the graphics card worthless for gamers and more efficient for computing.
The Navi 12 and Navi 10 chip lines have 2560 stream processors shared with 40 compute units. Additionally, Navi 10 runs with GDDR6 memory while Navi 12 is built around HBM2 memory. Their bandwidth is 449 GB/s and 395 GB/s, respectively.
Previously, NVIDIA announced the release of a line of video cards that can be used exclusively for Ethereum mining. These GPUs also lack the ability to display an image on the screen. Thus, the manufacturer decided to end the confrontation between miners and gamers.
NVIDIA will also halve the hashrate generated by the latest GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards for gamers. Due to the reduction in the hashrate of the RTX 3060 processor, NVIDIA anticipates that it will not provoke interest amongst miners.
We remind that in recent news it became clear that whales own 68% of the overall Ethereum supply.
