In partnership with cryptocurrency donation company The Giving Block, the American Cancer Society has established the Crypto Fund. Its goal is to raise at least $1 million in 2021 to fund current research initiatives.
According to the American Cancer Society, cancer research funding donations plunged 50% in 2020, hitting the lowest volume in a century. The sharp drop in revenues is connected to economic difficulties because of COVID-19.
“The crypto community’s support will help restore funding for critical research for new discoveries and enhanced treatments to conserve the lives of family and friends,” the American Cancer Society stated.
The first person to contribute cryptocurrency worth $250,000 or more for this fight will be able to assign their name or the name of a loved one to the foundation. People who donate $10,000 or more will appear on the foundation’s wall of honor.
The fund can receive donations in Bitcoin, Zcash, Litecoin, Gemini Dollar, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Chainlink, and Basic Attention Token.
“We want as many people as possible to join our cause,” noted Jeff Klass, digital director of the American Cancer Society. “To achieve this, we must ensure that people can donate assets to fight cancer, choosing when, where, and exactly how they want to do it.
