The popular Telecom company in the US, T-Mobile, is said to be checking into the claimed data hack. It is being said that the company’s system was breached to have released information about over 100 million customers.
However, this is not the first time this telecom business has faced a situation like this. Earlier this year, T-Mobile lost digital assets of over $8.7 million in the SIM-swap case. It is being predicted that the supposed hacker is planning on selling this data for approximately $286,000.
What is the Status?
As published on Motherboard (Vice), teams at T-Mobile have started looking into a potential data hack into their servers. The allegations were made by an author, operating from an underground forum. According to the reports obtained on 15th August 2021, the hacker is said to have stolen information of 100 million T-Mobile service users.
The seller for this information is demanding 6 BTC, at the present prices of the asset, to trade the data. Furthermore, the seller has also claimed that they are only selling data privately for the time being. But, they are willing to return data of 30 million users, their driver licenses and social security numbers, for the provided ransom.
After T-Mobile was alerted about this breach and active response, the hacker commented that the company has discovered their backdoors and have sealed them. the seller added that their connection to the company’s server was lost soon after.
A representative of T-Mobile came forth to provide updates on their stand. They cleared that the company is performing a thorough analysis to determine the “validity” and authenticity of this breach.
