An NFT marketplace bug was found on 31st Dec. It also highlighted the NFT tokens transferred at the OpenSea.

The Story of $7,54,000 Fraud in NFTs

The marketplace bug was found in the front end of OpenSea, a famous non-fungible token exchange. It is now found that this bug has enabled the users to purchase the famous NFT at a lower cost, than in its previous cost of listing.

This marketplace bug has been found within the Bored Ape Yacht Club along with Mutant Ape Yacht Club based NFT collectables. The users were able to make purchases of these NFTs at their prior listing prices. Moreover, they also sold them at the current pricing. It led to an effect on NFTs including BAYC #8924, BAYC# 9991, and MAYC #4986.

The Suspect of the Scenario

As per the initial investigations, a user called “jpegdegenlove” has been speculated for the set event of using the bug. Also, the user is known to have attained a gain of $7,54,000 with 332 Ether. No comment has been acquired from OpenSea.

Before this, on 31st Dec, a similar scenario took place when the bug was anticipated to be arisen from asset transfers via OpenSea wallets in the different wallets, despite the need of performing cancellation.

As per a Twitter user, when a user lists a specific collectable on OpenSea for auction and later cancels it, the marketplace imposes a specific fee. Moreover, the floor price of the concerned collectable also diminishes. These exploitations took place when users found a way around it and rather than cancelling the sale, they transferred the asset in a different wallet. It will automatically eliminate the listing from the marketplace. Although, the bug ensures that the listing remains active using the API of OpenSea.
