Bitcoin.org website was under attack on 23rd September 2021. The platform started showing multiple “double your money” frauds. After analyzing, it was revealed that this was possibly a DNS hack. Thankfully, before the website could undergo more damage, the active BTC Community stepped up to save it.
The active users started tweeting about the bogus transactions and posts to notify Cobra. These also alerted the hosting platform and the website owners about the same.
What happened next?
The threads of tweets started after Matt Corallo took the responsibility to reach out to accredited authorities about a potential system breach. His tweet warned the website owners, encouraging them to shut down the platform. This saved Bitcoin.org from facing major losses.
Cobra acknowledged this hack on his Twitter and clarified that the platform is looking for the loophole that allowed the hackers to access the website. He further added that the website could be out of operation for a few days. Both Bitcoin.org and Cobra have been in the headlines in the mid-2021 months.
This was after Craig Wright requested the United Kingdom court to insist the platform get rid of all the Bitcoin Whitepapers from their server. There are rumors that this security breach may or may not be related to this Australian entrepreneur.
Few agree that Wright might have initiated this attack on the website. There is some proof of 0.4 BTC being sent to the hacker’s address, which is a lot in Fiat currency. However, there are no confirmations about whether this is related to Craig Wright or not. And the website is still searching for the source.
