In the circumstances of disturbances in the world aviation sector due to delays of flights and changes of prices caused by the pandemic of coronavirus, a start-up from Bulgaria offers adventurers to receive their compensations in Bitcoin.
Compensation is gathered through the application of Colibra to passengers, whose flights are delayed for one hour or more. Since the start of work in June 2019, the Bulgarian start-up has provided compensation to travellers in fiat currency, now it also introduces compensation through Bitcoin.
Since BTC is an unstable asset, users can choose whether they want to fix the price on the day of registration on the flight or on the day of flight.
For example, a frequently traveling passenger, who reserved a flight last week and established the price of Bitcoin at $11,500, today will receive a profit from the delayed flight, as the course has risen to $11,800.
Colibra declares that it guarantees the payment of Bitcoins to any user whose flight was delayed by one hour or more, regardless of the reason pointed by the airline.
In the EU, the airlines are obliged to compensate any passenger for a delay of three or more hours, if it came due to the company’s fault. In this way, the application applies for a compensation package for all passengers who have suffered from three-hour and longer delays and distributes them among the passengers.
It is known that the current number of air flights is much less than last year, since countries are trying to slow down the spread of coronavirus. Global travel data provider OAG says that by August 10, the number of regular travel rates worldwide dropped by 47.9%, while travels from Hong Kong and Singapore dropped 91%.
