The Council of Mayors of Venezuela cities signed the “Agreement on the Harmonization of National Taxes”, which spelled out the possibility of using the Petro cryptocurrency to pay taxes.
After the official approval and hearing of the program, residents of 305 cities in Venezuela will be able to pay taxes with the Petro cryptocurrency. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez was appointed responsible for the creation of a unified digital register of taxpayers. She will also be responsible for setting up an information exchange and monitoring system.
Note that in Venezuela 335 cities and 91% of mayors are members of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela. The remaining 30 mayors are members of the opposition. Residents of these 30 municipalities will not be able to pay taxes with cryptocurrency.
“This will simplify procedures, make the work of officials faster and more efficient. This Flexibility Week will enable more efficient operations in both the manufacturing and commercial areas,” said Rodriguez.
In addition, in May it was reported that Venezuelans will be able to pay with cryptocurrencies at 20,000 points of sale in the country.
