According to the Interfax news agency reports, Russia might allow cryptocurrency payments for international transactions. This news was stated on 27th May. Furthermore, it was said by a government official on Friday that there is the possibility of Russia allowing cryptocurrency payments for international exchanges of money. Ivan Chebeskov is the head of the financial policy department. It is a segment of Russia’s finance ministry. He said the government is considering using digital currencies for international transactions and settlements through active discussions.
Experts speculate that this step in Russia is due to the dynamic changes in the global finance industry where cryptocurrency is surfacing strongly. The Russian officials are having difficulty managing the country’s crypto market. The use of digital currencies within the country has increased, and the government is finding it tough to manage. This is, in turn, for the opposition to the blanket ban given by the central bank for its use.
For quite a long time, discussions have been made about legalizing cryptocurrency use in the country. However, the discussions still haven’t come to an outcome. The experts trust that the cryptocurrency will soon become a legal form of payment; however, the consensus hasn’t been made yet.
The Vedomosti newspaper of Russia reported after citing the government officers that the cryptocurrency draft law will soon be formatted. The finance ministry is pondering compiling the newest proposal with respect to international payments in an updated format. This update may also include cryptocurrency legalization.
Further, Chebeskov added that using the cryptocurrency for international trades will help manage the results of Western sanctions, which have encountered Russia’s conventional cross-border transaction process and got its access. In addition, this will help avoid the issues regarded with traditional foreign payment methods in an evolved manner.
