The price of Bitcoin skyrocketed past $33,000 in a record-setting Saturday morning, only hours after passing through $30,000, starting the year off in rocket-engine fashion following a highly successful 2020.

When the price of the first cryptocurrency passed the $30,000 mark, something it had struggled to do since the last moments of 2020, it exploded like a cannonball, reaching a new all-time height of $33,333.00, before bouncing back to $32,512.30, up 11.82% just in the last 24 hours.

This impressive performance comes following a more than fruitful year in which BTC rose by more than 300%, with an almost 50% gain in the last month of 2020.

For reference: On Nov. 30, Bitcoin broke a nearly three-year-old highest price of $19,794. By the end of Dec. 31, the cryptocurrency had risen with the astounding $10,000.

Consequently, the total market value of Bitcoin skyrocketed as well, leaving behind many of the most well-known and richest companies in the corporate world. With an overall market capitalization of just over $600 billion, Bitcoin is now more valuable than all, except for nine publicly traded companies, sitting between Alibaba at $649.5 billion and Berkshire Hathaway at $544.8 billion.
