The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has a lot of interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain, which is expressed in the creation of a new division dedicated to research and development, called CIA Labs.

The Central Control Centre declared that its new internal centre for research and development is a registered member of the Federal Laboratory for the Transmission of Technology – a public organization uniting more than 300 federal laboratories, research centres and agencies.

Within the framework of this initiative, CIA Labs will be able to collaborate with experts from various industries, that deal with research, testing, and creating new technologies for solving various problems.

The new division highlights distributed peer technology and blockchain technology among its targeted research fields. The organization also plans to carry out research in such areas, as artificial intelligence, machine learning, alternative reality, quantification, bioscience and technology.

With the participation of CIA Labs, the staff of the Central Control Centre will be able to register patents for their own work and receive a percentage of the revenue made, the agency states in its press release. Head of Science and Technology Centre Don Meyerpix hopes that these incentives are sufficient enough to convince the best newcomers to get to work:

“Some phenomenal innovations have been created by the CIA over the years, thanks to CIA Labs, we now offer improved opportunities for optimization of our technological progress and additional investment in our scientists and technologists. Under the conditions of a constantly changing landscape, the innovation that will come from CIA Labs will enable us to preserve our competitiveness and protect our country”, he noted.
