
On September 1, Malaysia’s local news agency The Star reported that the country’s law enforcement authorities had shut down illegal cryptocurrency mining farms.
It is assumed that in the Malaysian state of Johor, mining illegally cryptocurrencies, miners stole $ 20,000 worth of electricity from the state every month.
After being briefed by officials from the country’s energy commission, police raided the farms.
According to Nazlin Alim Sadikhi, the current regional director of the Energy Commission of Johor State, the cryptocurrency was mined on two independent farms, which used about 148 mining rigs for two.
“It is assumed that the first premises have worked for three years, and the second for two years,” Sadikhi told reporters.
It is also reported that the miners managed to steal electricity worth more than $600,000.
According to local media reports, the suspects face a fine of $240,000 or 10 years in prison.
